3D Printing Reflection

O my gosh! I finally completed my first 3D ( 3 dimensional )print! Isn't that awesome? May Road School has officially got a 3D printer and the students are creating a design to print out. Mrs. Haydon got the idea to design key chains so we don't lose our Chromebook cases, and get them mixed up. It was fun experiencing what I could make online. We used a store ware called tinker cad. It was super fun making our designs. My design was successfully printed but I did a boo boo. Under my design I put a big E on it. But I can still learn make things right next time. Next time I would go around my design and remember to check under. Here's a photo of my design:

Right now I'm working on my new design creating some shaped bunny egg. I finished today at around the afternoon. I can't wait until its printed out! Here's a screenshot of what it looks like online.
I do really hope this actually turns out right this time. :) Check out some my classmates blogs to see what there design looks like and how it turned out.

Cheers,
Ema

Steps of how to have a positive digital footprint!

Last Friday, James visited Rm14. He showed us how to delete our YouTube channels, and also the teacher dashboard. After that he gave us our first instruction. Go to your Chromebook, search your first and last name, and see what pops up. So we did that. 2 or 3 people in our classrooms found photo's that they didn't know that was online. I found photo's that I did know that was online from my blog.  After that, we came back to the mat. He showed us what people can do online in seconds. So, we timed him. It took him 20 seconds to tweet a random photo of Rm14. Luckily, he deleted the tweet.. He sent us off to make atleast 5-8 steps of how to have a positve digital footprint! Here's my one!

3 Question About Earthquakes!

This week we were learning about earthquakes. Rm 14 have been learning lots and lots of facts about Earthquakes. After watching videos, reading facts, and learning about earthquakes, Mrs Moore sent us off to answer three main questions.
1) What is an Earthquake?
2) What do earthquake do/cause?
3) What is an earthquake drill? Why do we have to practise earthquake drills?
So we went off and answered all three questions. Also yesterday we did an earthquake drill at exactly 9:15am. My heart was beating fast once the bell ring to tell us it is an earthquake drill. Have you ever been in an earthquake drill?

Here is my presentation:

Maths Games

This is a presentation showing some cool maths game that you can teach your class. These maths games help you with your maths. Some helps you with all your maths, your division and multiplication, and basic facts. Have fun learning these game and also have fun learning maths! We did this presentation so the parents can teach there kids and help them with their maths. We also had a week called MATHS Week and some of us showed the parents how to play it. We were the teachers that night and they were the students. Maths is awesome! I love maths <3

The Recycling Station

The Recycling Station

Last week half of the school visited the recycling station. They all told me they had an amazing time there. I really wanted to go but sadly I was sick. I have learnt a lot from my friends and they explained to me what they did. A worker named Maria has told them a lot and also showed them a presentation. Room 14 was split up with other classes. I totally think they have learned a lot. Did you know that you can recycle some plastic? I didn't know. Did you also know that there is 3.5 million tonnes of rubbish is buried under New Zealand? WOW! 3/4 of the rubbish could have been saved! It is very important that we put our rubbish in the right bins and that we don't litter so we can keep our environment, community, and world healthy and tidy. Here is a drawing of the recycling station:

Speeches.

This term Room 14 has been writing persuasive speeches! We had to write a persuasive speech trying to convince the Audience and the judges about your topic. My topic was "Why we should have a positive attitude." I chose this topic because I think students like us are not having a positive attitude! If we have a bad attitude at primary how would we act in the future?

We all had great speech topics and ideas. We spent nearly a whole block in the morning getting our speeches done. I've got to be honest. I was waiting to do speeches ever since last year!

When I have finished writing my speech, proof reading it and making sure it makes sense, and then putting it on cue cards, it was finally time to practise and trying to memorising it before I present it in front of the class. When I presented my speech I felt really, really, really, nervous. I was quite happy of the fact that I was the last one to present that day. While we present our teacher will be judging us of how we present our speech, written it, practised and memorised it and she will be checking if we have done our success criteria. We even had a time limit of our speech. My time was 3.54, which was a bit to long. But I was happy it did not go over 4 minutes.

When everyone has presented their speech it is time to vote for our Class Finals. The people who gets into the Finals will have to present their speech again. We had to write 3 names on 1 piece of paper. We had to keep our votes anonymous, which mean we do not write our name or tell them who I am.  At the end of the day our teacher has counted all our votes she was ready to tell us. The class finals are: Ivorn, Faiupu, Luciano, Emalata (Me), Hermione and Dinah. I was kind of surprised because I made it to the class finals last year, and now this year.

When I got home I practised, and cut my speech down so my time would be good! I was even more nervous this time because I'm in the class finals.

The day came when I had to present my speech. I think I was really good because my time was 3.08! I was super happy. It's not too long and it's not too short. Just right! But I still kept doing my happy feet. (That was because I was super super shakey)

After 1 day the teacher had a class meeting without the speech finalist. She said it was too hard for her to choose so the class chose with her. I was wanting to find out badly who was going but then we found at the end of the day. The speech finalist were:
Ivorn
Fai'upu
Hermione
Luciano

Congratulations!

These people went to the hall in Friday the 28th to present their speech. They were also competing with other classes. The judges were Mrs. Noakes, and Mrs. Shuster. It was a bit sad because I wasn't there to hear their wonderful speeches! But I heard that in 3rd place was: Faiupu, and Ma'asoama from Room 15,
In 2nd place was Hermione! Finally, in first place was   ..................

Ivorn!

Congratulations Ivorn! Ivorns speech was " Why we should be ourselves"! I was happy though because I have heard Ivorns speech and I want to congrats her again.

H2O Magic Water !

This term for science we were learning about Magic Water ! We had a session with sally and we learnt a lot. Here is a presentation of the things we learnt. I hope you can learn something!

Maths Learning.

Volume And MeasurementThis term in maths, we have been learning about volume and measurement. During maths  I learned about the 3 dimensions. The 3 dimensions are width, height, and length. I also learned how to calculate the volume. At the beginning of the term we used the cubes and the blocks to do some maths. We did some problem solving and we had to build a rectangular prism. It was super fun. Last week we have been working on some boxes. We named all the boxes. It was box A, B, C, D, E, F, G, and H. All the boxes were different. We had to estimate which box is the smallest to the biggest. Here are the boxes:My estimation was B,D,C,A,G,F,H,E. When we finished our guessing which box was the smallest to the biggest box we then started measuring the boxes. We were all put into groups to measure. I was with Angelina and Savahn. They were great partners to work with. The first box we measured was box B.
Box B was the one that I estimated that was the smallest. Me and my group measured the Width first. The width was 8.4 cm. Mrs Moore said that if it is point something move it down or up. We moved it down to 8.4 because 8.4 was close to 8cm. So the width was 8 cm. Next we measured the length. The length was 9 cm, and the height was 5 cm. We had to times 5 cm by 9 cm by 8 cm. Our equation was 5 X 8= 40 cm. Now we just had to figure out what 40 X 9. It was really hard until Angelina found out a way to figure it out. She did a really cool equation and we got it. The answer was 360  <.< This Is How She did it It was a really smart move. Well done Angelina!!The next box we measured was Box G. I asked Savahn to measure us the measurements. We measured the Width and it =  16.3 cm we moved it down to 16 cm because 16.3 cm is closer to 16 cm. Next Savahn measured the Length. The length = 8.9 cm. We moved it up to make 9 cm because 8.9 cm is close to 9cm. Then we measured the leg nth and it = 30.1 cm we moved it down to 30 cm because 31.cm is closer to 30 cm.  The next day we had to figure out the volume for Box. G. We times 30 cm by 16 cm, and 9 cm. The answer was 1824 cm3. We were happy with our answers. Just as we were going to the next box the teacher called us in to figure out our equations. Here is the volume for the boxes. We got Box.G wrong. At least we tried :DSo I got my estimations wrong but it's okay. Doing this project was really cool! ! I love Maths ! Anyway lets start the things we did at the begging of the term. We were put into maths groups and we all worked together. When we had sessions with Mrs Moore she would say "Okay grab 24 cubes and make a rectangular prism. Sometimes she would say that the length and the width and the height has to equal this and that. It was quite hard at the begging because I have forgotten what the 3 dimensions were. I tried asking the teacher but she said that she wouldn't tell because it was art of the session but then I tried and I made it. I now know where and that are the 3 dimensions.Here are Hermione, Paora, and Nejwa having a picture when they finished solving the problem.Sometimes during the week after break we come inside the class and we quickly rule up a 10 by 10 grid. Something looking like this:In the photo I have to plus the numbers at the top and the numbers at the bottom together. I also worked on maths using websites online like using Xtra Maths. A website where you can practise your basic facts. I also use Studyladder and it's great using it. Our teacher sets us tasks to do and we do it ! Maths is awesome ! Basic Facts.

Dear Snow White....

Today our teacher read us the amazing book: Snow White, because this week was *Book Week*. Every year we have book week and our magnificent librarian Andrea plans it all out. Anyway, after reading the story, the teacher told us to write a letter to Snow White and tell her about the silly things that she done. Like run into the forest and go into some stranger's house. She told us to write to her and explain what she has done wrong, then give her some positive advice. I was Snow White's real mother from heaven. It's great pretending to be someone and writing a letter. Here is my story:

Dear Snow White,
This is your Mother from heaven. A little angel came and gave me a story about you. It was a marvellous story but… You did quite some silly things in the story like, run away into the forest and go inside some stranger's house, and sleep on their bed! That was really stupid of you. But I still love you. Anyway, you even let a creepy old lady (Who was the next Queen, and who took over me) come into the house, and she told you about a magic apple. You should’ve known there was no special apple tree from high school…. She was a stranger! She tricked you. And why have you always been so nice darling? I know I taught you to be nice, but not really nice to a creepy old lady! Okay now that was overboard dear. And one more thing, why did you go with the prince? he was a complete stranger too. You just don’t meet someone who just kissed you and then marry them. Darling me and you father were BFF’s until I got married with him because I knew him. Don’t you remember anything I have taught you? I told you never talk to strangers ! First I think you should’ve ran to the village and lived with the orphans, and change your style and look and act like a villager. And second you should’ve listened to Grumpy. Grumpy may be a big fuss, and a angry dwarf but he’s always true with his words and he’s a softy. I just had a cup of tea with him. Wait I'm going off track, anyway, you should’ve listened to Grumpy!! And thirdly, your should’ve got to know the prince even better. Dear I hope there was a time machine to turn back time and still be alive so all that ever happened to you never happened. I love you with all my heart and I hope you have a happy life. But remember I still don’t like the prince. (He might be a wicked Prince) But I'm happy that you’re having a good life up in the clouds. I will always look down and see what your doing. I love you so much dear good bye now.
Love
Mother White.

Samoan Language Week.

Last week was Samoan language week! It was great learning how to speak in Samoan. Every Morning starting from Monday we learned how to say *Good Morning* in Samoan, which is "Manuia Le Taeo."It took me about 5 minutes to say it correctly.  Well last week on Friday, Samoan students from May Road School did a Samoan Assembly.  They sang Samoan songs, the girls did a Siva Samoa, a Samoan dance, the boys did a Samoan haka, which was really good!

The little kids from Room 9 did a fantastic job doing a Samoan poem called "Pussi Pussi Meow" It was a Samoan poem about cat. Wow they did a great job you should have seen them they were amazing and they were just little kids!!

The Samoan girls did a lovely Siva. They were very beautiful, and graceful, I really liked how they put lipstick on their faces and it was shaped as a dimple, that made that look even more beautiful. The Samoan girls were very good and professional. It took them only 3 or 4 days to practise, and they were really great! How they moved their hands and feet it was really great. I wonder if that was their first performance?

The Samoan boys did a wonderful haka ! It was really good and they had a little bit of time to practise and they were perfectly good! Faiupu did a solo haka with Presley ! They did a great job ! All the boys did a great job ! It takes me about a week to learn a whole dance or a haka these guys did great !

It was really lovely seeing the students singing happily in Samoan words. All thier smiles and how proud they were to be Samoan. I really think they did a wonderful job. I wonder if there's going to be a really big Samoan assembly next year?

Speech Recording

This morning I used a recoding software that James had taught Rm14. You can record what your saying and the laptop will write what your saying. When I was using the recording software it felt like I was talking to a human being. Using this web tool is really fun. My teacher told me it is good for those people who don't really know English. They can talk through the recording software and it will write down what he/she said.
This is a really good web tool to use :)

Jump Rope For Heart.

This term May Road School have been doing some skipping  and jumping with the ropes. Our school participated in the Jump Rope For Heart Foundation, where we have to jump and skip so that our hearts can beat. We also fundraised money to give to the hospitals to help the children's heart. Yesterday we had the big day, wh
ere we have 10 groups and we go around each station and skip. Each station is a station where you do skills with the ropes. Station 1 and 6 are the same it's the free style station. Where you can go and do some casual skipping. My group was group 6. It was really fun skipping with friends. I did exactly 51 skips without tripping over. I think I Did pretty good.

We did some pair skipping with our partners. Me and Isabella got 1 rope and we jumped together with the rope. We made it up to 10 until she tripped over. It was actually really fun skipping with a partner.

We even did some skipping with the hula hoops. I couldn't quite do it because I was just too tall and big for the little hoops. It was a challenge trying to get to 10 but I only got it to 3 ..... So I just sat down and had a little rest until I got another hula hoop can started swinging it with my hand, I tried to skip with it until I made it to 8. Well At least I tried.

It was really fun working with other people and skipping with them. I'm glad that I have achieved my goal which was to get up to 50 skips. And I did :D On this photo it looked like Tyson and Asif was having a great time skipping. I think they made it up to 30 skips altogether. In Rm14 our best skipper was Haofei. He could skip up to 100. Wow ! He learned how to skip when he was at china. Now isn't he a pro skipper.

It was fun to see people smile and feel happy skipping. I pray for all those children in hospital who has problems with their heart to become healthy and so they can have big smiles on their faces!!
Thank You May Road School For Participating :D

Tennis.

This term my class Room 14 has been learning how to play  tennis ! Learning how to play tennis is really fun. Our coach Josh is an amazing Tennis player. He has taught us a lot of tricks and skills. He showed us awesome tricks and where our hitting position is. Our hitting position is on your hips. So when you hit the ball you hit it just below your hips.

At tennis we practise balancing the ball on the Sweet Spot. The sweet spot is the centre of the racket. In this photo Ben is trying to balance the ball on the sweet spot.

After we learned our hitting position, the sweet spot, and how to hold our racket we finally went outside and started using the nets. We had a great time practising. For our first session with the nets we had one person with the racket and one person with the ball. The person with the ball throws the ball to their partner and their partner lets it bounce on the ground and on to there ball, then she holds the ball with her racket and shouts out SANDWICH. Me and my partner didn't shout out SANDWICH we shouted out different types of healthy food and things like TOMATO, CEREAL, And CALCIUM. I wonder if May Road might have tennis for sports next year.

For tennis we had a professional tennis player called Josh. Josh is a really good tennis player. He has been playing tennis for at least 10 years, and he is  now 22 years old. Josh is even close with the famous Maria Tutaia. I wonder if I would grow and be as good as Josh.

While we practised Josh got some student's attention from showing them a cool as trick. He got the tennis ball and placed it on the racket, then he turned the racket around and the tennis back never fell off. Isn't that cool??? Tennis this term rocked the whole class... Tennis ROCKS !!
